Bangladesh Mineral Sand Resources

Mineral Sand Deposits have been identified in the coastal belt and in the coastal islands of Bangladesh. Different heavy minerals and their reserves are Zircon, Rutile, Ilmenite, Leucoxene, Kyanite, Garnet Magnetite and Monazite.

Bangla Sands (Australia) and Bangla Sands Bangladesh were established to invest in Bangladesh to develop the mineral sands opportunity that was initially identified by the Atomic Energy commission of Bangladesh in the 1960’s and Geological Survey of Bangladesh (GSB).

About us

About Bangla Sands

Since 2006 we conducted exploration in rivers, coastal islands and beach areas in Bangladesh and have made corresponding exploration and mining applications throughout these areas.

We have employed a team of up to 12 local geologists, and an Australian geologist during our major exploration phase at Cox’s Bazar. Further exploration though-out Bangladesh consisted of island exploration and inland into the major river systems of the Jamuna, Meghna and Padma. We have found minerals to be present in the sands in all areas of Bangladesh in various quantities.

Company History

Bangla Sands has an extensive collection of laboratory test results, reports and analysis of its field work. We have good results from analysis in Australian and local laboratories.

About Mineral Sands

Mineral Sands are mostly used for the production of Industrial minerals, on a global scale, mineral sands are of crucial economic importance as non-metallic and metallic raw materials alike.

Of the numerous heavy minerals, only a few have economic significance due to their properties and prevalence. These are called valuable heavy minerals (VHM). The principal VHM include Ilmenite, Leucoxene, Rutile and Zircon.

PROJECTS

Our Projects

We have conducted initial reconnaissance surveys of mineral potential throughout Bangladesh. Under government approvals we have completed official exploration activities in some river areas, and coastal areas both east and west of the Bay of Bengal. We have several mining applications pending with the Government of Bangladesh.

Exploration Activities

We are focused on three main areas, which are:
a) Cox’s Bazar-Teknaf coast on the eastern side of Bangladesh. This is situated in the Teknaf Peninsula.
b) Southern coast of Bangladesh, mainly the islands in the Bay of Bengal.
c) River systems comprised of the three major rivers namely Padma, Meghna and Jamuna.

To date there has been extensive sampling, testing and metallurgical works performed over the focused areas.

Premier’s research and exploration program has resulted in a large number of exploration license applications which cover all the potential areas of mineralisation throughout Bangladesh for which it is believed can be readily developed without negative environmental impact.

In total Premier has made 78 exploration license applications. Please see our list here

Mining Proposals

Bangla Sands holds applications for mining lease licenses in the Cox’s Bazar and Teknaf regions. Five Blocks in our exploration areas 5 and 6 to the BMD in 2008.

Six mining lease proposals in Kawar Char, Jahajmara, Sonar Char and Kalagacchia under Patuakhali District; Dhal char and Vashar char under Bhola District in 2010. More Information
